MENA Newswire News Desk: UAE airports experienced a 14.2% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2024, according to data from the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE). The country’s airports collectively handled over 71.7 million passengers, compared to 62.8 million in the same period in 2023, signaling a continued post-pandemic recovery. Passenger traffic at both Abu Dhabi International Airport and Dubai International Airport surged, with Abu Dhabi recording a 33.8% year-on-year increase, while Dubai saw an 8% rise, according to the Quarterly Economic Review.

Additionally, Zayed International Airport reported handling over 13.7 million passengers in H1 2024, benefiting from its top-tier facilities and expanded services. “This underscores Abu Dhabi’s position as a significant global transportation hub,” the report stated, with passenger numbers at Abu Dhabi International Airport climbing by over 33% compared to 2023. The growth in passenger traffic strengthens the UAE’s status as a key global aviation center while contributing significantly to the national economy.

This surge supports sectors such as tourism, trade, and employment, bolstering the UAE’s ongoing efforts to diversify its economy. The performance of the UAE’s national carriers further highlights the country’s expanding role within the global aviation network, according to the report. The UAE continues to establish itself as a vital link between international markets, reflecting the country’s growing international presence in the aviation industry.
